Works to renovate and convert a section of the ground floor of the Austen Building at Alton College are now completed.
One of the primary aspects of the works were an existing TV Filming Studio was removed and replaced with a new mock home teaching space that helps educate students on how to live independently. There was also the creation of smaller rooms accommodating Therapy, Sensory and Quiet rooms as well as a new Accessible Sanitary space incorporating WC's, Hygiene and Inspection Room.
Wall, floor and ceiling finishes were changed throughout to refresh to whole space. As part of choosing the finishes Light Reflectance Values were taken into account as well as colours that are considered to be Autism friendly.
In addition, part of the Foulkes building was refurbished to create a mock hospital ward to be used as a practical learning facility.
